주석달린 셜록홈즈 vol.3이 늦는 이유

Klinger has also contributed introductions to numerous books of mystery and horror, written book reviews for the Los Angeles Times, and contributed an essay on vampires and sex, called Love Bites, to Playboy.[2] He served as a consultant on the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey, Jr.[3][4] and will do the same on the sequel, Sherlock Holmes 2, to be released Christmas 2011. He is also is co-editing a book with Laurie R. King tentatively titled Studies in Sherlock, a collection of stories connected to Holmes by an all-star group of writers, to be published by Random House for Christmas 2011.
클링거 양반이 셜로키언이란 건 익히 알고 있었지만 드라큘라에 대해 빠삭할거라곤 생각지 못했다. 뭣보다 유감스러운 사실은 그토록 - 보지도 않았지만 - 동떨어졌다 여겨졌던 미국버전에 힘을 쏟다니 양반이 -_-..

Klinger is a member of the Sherlock Holmes literary club called The Baker Street Irregulars, as well as numerous other Sherlockian societies. He served three terms as chapter president of the Southern California chapter of the Mystery Writers of America. He is a member of Sisters in Crime, the Horror Writers Association, the Dracula Society, and the Transylvanian Society of Dracula.
얼마 전에 그가 The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes vol.3 를 출판하지 않는 이유를 알 수 있게 하는 대목이다. 흥미로운 것은 아서 코난 도일과 절친이었다고 알려진 브람 스토커의 드라큘라를 좋아한다는 사실이다. 어째서?
드라큘라와 셜록홈즈는 은연중에 닮은 점이 은근히 많다. 창백한 모습이나 송곳니는 어쩌지 못할지라도. 브램 스토커의 생애 자체가 셜록홈즈와 존 왓슨을 떠올리게 하기 충분하다. 누구라도 웬만해서는 27년 가까이 한 사람을 수발하진 못할 것이다. 헨리 어빙의 모습에 매료된다 할지라도...클링거는 셜록홈즈의 '현신'을 찾고 싶었던 것은 아니었을까, 넌지시 생각해본다.
뭐, 물론 그가 빅토리안 시대 특유의 무섭고 음침한 것을 좋아하는 것만은 분명하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 'Jack the Ripper'는 왜 안 알아본 건지 또 신기하다. 전자가 맞았으면 좋겠다(전적으로)

He has lectured frequently on Holmes, Dracula, and the Victorian world and has taught a number of courses for UCLA Extension on Sherlock Holmes.
공부를 잘 하지 못했던 게 유일하게 후회되는 구문이다. 언젠가는 대학에 '셜록학'이 탄생할 것 같은 예감이다, 젠장
